Суспільство – вариво спільнот, які формуються навколо різних поглядів на спільні виклики. Зійтись на єдиному вимагає надзусиль. Подекуди згуртувати здатна лише загроза свободі та самому існуванню. Втім, єдність завжди тимчасова і зрештою фрагментується, як тільки небезпека стає менш очевидною.
Загроза, що не минає й стає постійною, породжує напругу. Накопичуючись, та переходить в роздратування, а далі – злість. Аби знайти вихід і не бути саморуйнівною, агресія спрямовується на інших, посилюючи колообіг розбрату.
Без розмаїття відмінних, часом непримиренних голосів не уявити свободу. Виглядає, що суперечки її підважують, насправді ж – підносять. Поза тим, цілковита згода – завжди недосяжна. Натомість маємо вічне балансування між пошуком компромісу та змаганням у дошкульності.
Якщо вколоти надто глибоко, можна зламати осердя – тожсамість, навколо якої й виростає суспільство. Фіксація на ворожнечі всередині розпорошує пильність й підточує змогу опиратись небезпеці ззовні. Аби залишатися вільними, зокрема й у суперечках, належить відповідати за сказане. Позаяк розірваний ланцюг соборності завжди готові перекувати на братні пута.
Self-attack
Society is a boiling brew of communities shaped around different views on common challenges. It takes a massive effort to agree upon a single point. Sometimes, only a threat to freedom and the very existence may have a unifying capacity. Unity is always temporary; eventually, it breaks up as soon as the danger becomes less noticeable.
If a threat persists, tension accumulates, converting into irritation and anger. Aggression needs a way out to avoid being self-destructive, so it is targeted at others, fueling the cycle of discord.
Without a medley of distinct, sometimes contrasting voices, freedom is unimaginable. Controversy seems to undermine it; in fact, it only elevates it. Absolute consent is never attainable. Instead, there's an eternal balancing act between seeking a compromise and attacking the opponent.
Deep punctures can break the core — the identity society grows around. Obsession with internal feuds exhausts the alertness and potential to resist outside dangers. Preserving liberty, including the freedom to argue, requires responsibility for what one says. For there will always remain those willing to reforge the broken chain of unity into fraternal bonds.
